Born in 1969 in Rostov-on-Don; graduated in physics from the Rostov State University in 1992. Since 1994 has directed a number of performances in Rostov.

Serebrennikov is also author of the concept and stage director of the symphony performance REQUIEM to music by Alexei Sioumak, with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis, Moscow Art Theatre, and THE HAMLETMACHINE based on Heiner Müller at the Moscow Art Theatre.
Since 2006 Kirill Serebrennikov is an art director of the Territory International Festival. Since 2011 has been Artistic Director of The Studio Seven, one of the residents of the Gogol-Centre. The Studio Seven is a young team consisting of former Kirill Serebrennikov's students at the Moscow Art Theatre School. With the actors of The Studio Seven Serebrennikov staged A HERO OF OUR TIME by Mikhail Lermontov, CAIN by Byron, THE SCUMBAGS based on Zakhar Prilepin, METAMORPHOSES based on Ovid (in collaboration with David Bobee), opera by Yury Lobikov THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK based on Lewis Carroll and MIDSUMMER NIGHT`S DREAM based on William Shakespeare.
He is also a co-founder and artistic director of the Platform project, a multicultural space for the experiments in visual arts.
Since 2012 Kirill Serebrennikov has been artistic director of the Gogol Centre where he directed THE IDIOTS by Valery Pecheikin based on Lars von Trier’s film, SPRING AWAKENING to the music by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, and DEAD SOULS based on Nikolai Gogol.
In various years Serebrennikov has been a nominee and winner of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award.
