Throughout the years of its existence, the Golden Mask Festival has presented the most notable, celebrated and striking productions from abroad. Foreign productions have become an integral part of the Festival’s life and have been presented under the auspices of various projects and as individual presentations.

In 2004, on its 10th anniversary the Golden Mask presented a program of Eimuntas Nyakrosius outstanding productions directed by him at the Meno Fortas Theatre – HAMLET, MACBETH and OTHELLO.

In 2011, the Golden Mask presented in Moscow the first scaled Polish program that included stellar theatre pieces like (A) POLLONIA (Nowy Teatr, Warsaw) dir. by Krzysztof Warlikowski, PERSONA.MARILYN (Drama Theatre, Warsaw) dir. by Krystian Lupa, T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T., (TR Warszawa) dir. by Grzegorz Jarzyna, BABEL (Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz) dir. by Maja Kleczewska and SMALL NARRATION (Theatre-Studio, Warsaw) dir. by Wojtek Ziemilski.

The project Legendary Productions and Artists in the period between 2005 and 2013 annually presented in Moscow masterpieces created by the most prominent theatre directors. The project comprised a living history of world theatre. The final and one of the most memorable presentations in the frame of the Project was Heiner Goebbels' STIFTER'S DINGE in 2013 produced at the Vidi-Lausanne theatre. Over the years, foreign productions have taken part in the out-of-competition program Maska Plus and in the New Play festival, a partner project of the Golden Mask Festival and Teatr.doc. Follow the link for more details of the Project and participants.

In 2014 the Golden Mask Festival launched a project under the title Context. Contemporary Foreign Performances aiming to introduce the Russian public to contemporary art and a new understanding of theatrical language. In 2015, the Context presented WHEN THE MOUNTAIN CHANGED ITS CLOTHES, a co-production of the Ruhrtriennale International Festival (Germany) and the Carmina Slovenica (Slovenia).

In 2018-2019, the Golden Mask presented productions by L-E-V Sharon Eyal | Gai Behar (Israel), Wayne McGregor Dance Company (UK) and Volksbuehne Theatre (Berlin, Germany). In 2020, the Golden Mask brought to Moscow the Rosas Dance Company from Belgium. For more details please go to the Archive on the left of page.
