Stopping by woods on a snowy evening

Meyerhold Centre, Moscow
Presented in the frame of Russian Case 2018
Directors: Tatiana Gordeeva, Yekaterina Bondarenko
Age category 18+
The playwright Ekaterina Bondarenko and the choreographer Tatiana Gordeeva attribute their production to a lecture-performance or a report on architecture. The first has a rich experience in documentary theatre; the second is one of the intellectual giants of Russian contemporary dance, she is also a functioning choreographer. The format the two of them use – uncommon for the domestic theatre - allows them categorically not to be entertaining, whilst maintaining a high tension of thought and feeling at the same time. The performers use their own naked bodies as an object and a subject simultaneously. They send a message that architecture is allied to the human body and the general principles found both in architecture and the body, allows us to better explore ourselves and the environment around us. Both the dancer and the architect work with the space and with the ways to change it. The idea of transformation underlies STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING: geometry should be incorporated into the heart, and the architectural principle of handling the environment is suitable for corporeal practices. Intellectual practice becomes tangible: by stripping naked, the creators of the performance make their statement extremely honest and frank.
