EXHIBITS
Playwright and Director Theatre and Theatre.doc, MoscowSet designer: Lyosha Lobanov
New drama does not any longer cause such scandals in Russia, as it used to for over a decade.
It is rather widely staged in this country, becoming more professional and undergoing the process of internal stratification into innovative and traditional drama. Among the innovators Pavel Prjazhko from Minsk is number one figure (His “Third shift” is shown in Russian Case), among the traditionalists it is Vyacheslav Durnenkov. His “Exhibits” describe the life of an old provincial town, visited by a couple of enterprising people from Moscow to transform the town into an open-air museum. Some people there welcome the possibility of making money, others are ready to die rather than become exhibits. Two families, two clans bound by relations of love and hatred determine the future of the town by rising in arms. Teatr.doc is too small for his multi-character realistic play, but the production has an unquestionable advantage: nowhere else actors play more realistically than in Teatr.doc.
